Sculpture exhibition in Salamanca

Here is an excellent plan for sculpture lovers visiting Spain in 2007. In the ancient city of Bejar, located in the South of Salamanca (200 kilometres from Madrid) you can enjoy, until the end of this year, an amazing exhibition of sculpture in the framework of a homage to the Spanish sculptor Mateo Hernandez. 57 years after the sculptor's death, the city that hosts his museum celebrates a contest of sculpture. Here is a video of the sculpture exhibition that you can see in Béjar.

Ready to explore Andalusia

I am preparing to travel to the South of Spain. The last week has been pretty cold and cloudy in Spain, but it seems that the good weather is back this weekend, and I am ready to try the famous beaches of Andalusia.
I'll be travelling to Seville and Malaga next week. I hope to visit the famous Nerja, my friends have told me that it's beautiful but I haven't been there yet. We'll be gathering some useful information fot the Tour Spain Travel Guides website too.
Our first stop in the Andalusia tour will be Seville, which is the capital of the region and the largest city in Andalusia, from there we will be travelling to the city of Malaga, famous beach resort of the South of Spain, and then finally to the coast of Nerja and Torrox. We'll keep you updated with the best places sto visit, we'll be posting photos and more information soon.

Just back from holiday in Santander

I'm just back from a short but fullfilling holiday in wonderful Santander. The weather in Spain has been pretty bad during the easter week (with snow in inland Spain and all), but lukilly enough the north of Spain was sunny and warm. So I had a great time visiting friends and exploring the amazing Cantabria.
The city of Santander was packed with people enjoying the holiday, so I preferred to move to less crowded parts of Cantabria. I went to Liencres beach, which is a nature park and has a great beach with dunes, and I also walked up to la Picota, a small mountain just by the beach of Liencres with amazing views over the Santander bay and the coast. An amazing experience.

Spanish fiestas and celebrations

Spring begins tomorrow and in Spain it's time for Fiestas and Celebrations.

Yesterday the Fallas were buried in Valencia. An amazing tradition worth seeing if you're in Spain and even worth the trip to Spain itself.

Fallas
are the most important celebration in Valencia, they take place in March 19th. Huge paper and cardboard statues are build every year showing the most current events in Spain that year, everything from politics to gossip from the tabloids is critizised and made public in this huge statues which are burnt on March 19th, in a celebration of fire and purification.

Semana Santa is on the corner, celebrations begining in two weeks in most cities of Spain, and in contrast with this religious celebration, Sevilla's Feria de Abril will be starting also in April 24th. Enjoy the Spanish celebrations!

Just back from holiday in Tenerife!

Waoo, it’s been a great week down south in the Canary Islands. I travelled to wonderful Tenerife to find some warm weather in Autumn, and I can say that after one week in Tenerife I am really tan :D

Beach in Tenerife South Tenerife helds nice temperatures all through the year, specially in the South of the island. It is called the “Island of contrasts” they told me, because you can find many different types of landscapes and climates, since the center of the island is occupied by the gigant Teide vulcano, the highest peak in Spain, and the rest of the island boasts beautiful beaches.

Now, about the beaches, most are very peculiar because their sand is black instead of golden. Apparently this is due to the kind of stone that you find in a volcanic island like this. Nothing to worry about though, the beaches are great nevertheless and the vulcano is not going to blow while you are there! :) I’ll tell you more details about this trip in the next posts, but now, in case anyone planning to travel to Tenerife is reading me… I have to tell you that I was a bit disapointed by the hotel I stayed in. I’ve been already there a couple of times, and stayed in different hotels, all of which where great (4 stars I chose) but this time although I booked a 4-star of a well-know hotel chain, the hotel was quite bad, specially the room, really small, incorfotable and not too clean, so please, be careful if you are looking for a hotel in the South and you come across this “Hesperia Troya Hotel” I stayed in, it is dreadful, you better choose another one.
